Wecome to my LAF 2010 Austin Challenge Blog

Despite having not been on a bike in over 25 year plus, I managed to finished 90 miles in the Austin 2009 Lance Armstrong Challenge. I decided to take on this challenge as my way of celebrating 13 years of survivorship. You know...knock another one off of the ole' bucket list!

It was an exciting year filled with bee stings, road rash, and riding in 3 digit heat. You can read about that 2009 year and my experiences on my old blog at http://mylancearnstrongchallenge.blogspot.com/

So...New Year, New Goal, New Blog! I hope you check in with me from time to time to read about my 2010 adventures. Who knows what's in store for me this year!

It's Official, I Just Signed Up TODAY!

"There is always room for improvement," isn't there? Well, I sure hope so because I am going to try and set a new PR (that stands for "Personal Record"). Last year, I learned so much about myself as I took on my first LAF Challenge. My 2009 journey was hard and at times I wondered why in the h#%*! was I even doing this thing?

Well, my lessons were too many to recall, but here are a few of them...
  • It's WAY easier to go down a hill than it is to climb one, but the view is much better at the top.
  • It's lots harder to find the courage to step outside your comfort zone that it is to have the desire.
  • Sometimes you just gotta grit your teeth, lock into your pedals and get to riding.
  • Every time you conquer one hill, it makes you that much stronger. So, if you do the little hills well, the big ones can be climbed before you know it.
  • You CAN be stung more than once in a single riding season!
  • Every day in every way, I continue to get better and better.
  • You have to expect things of yourself and make yourself accountable to you.
  • Your mind is all that counts. If you TRULY believe in yourself and work hard, then NOTHING is impossible.
  • And lastly...our talents are special gifts from God. When you go out and use them to the best of your ability, then what you make of them is your gift back to him.
Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment. Last year was an amazing journey for me. I learned so much about myself, reconnected with old friends, made lots of new friends, and with the generosity of friends and family helped the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

I hope that this year will be more of the same. Who know's...maybe I can put together a team for 2010?
